Afghan Resettlement 2.0

As part of the Welcome Home initiative, Team Rubicon and Welcome.US are working with local partners to help Afghan families settle into their new homes across the country. As more families transition off the bases and into the communities, volunteers are signing up to help welcome them. As of February 17, 290 Greyshirts have deployed and helped families move into 90 homes.

The Navajo Nation

In its fourth mission of support to the Navajo Nation, Team Rubicon medical providers worked with Gallup Indian Medical Center for a month, to assist with COVID-19 outpatient support, car-based COVID-19 testing, and vaccinations. Over the course of the most recent operation, 22 Greyshirts administered more than 1,625 vaccinations and 3,964 COVID-19 tests.  

Upcoming Operations

Mitigation

Williamson County, TX

In accordance with Williamson County’s Hazard Mitigation plan, Team Rubicon will launch an operation on February 25 to assist with wildfire mitigation in the community.

Douglas, CO

At the request of Douglas County officials, Franktown Fire Department, and the city of Franktown, Team Rubicon will deploy roughly 80 Greyshirts beginning on February 18, to assist with the mitigation efforts and help fulfil the city’s wildfire protection plan.

Storm Recovery

Terrebonne Parish, LA

At the request of the Emergency Manager of Terrebonne Parish, Team Rubicon will be deploying local Greyshirts from March 4, to work alongside Catholic Charities, repairing some of the 600 homes still showing damage from Hurricane Ida.

Rebuild Operations

After Hurricane Harvey, Team Rubicon moved beyond disaster relief and into recovery. In 2017, Rebuild launched in Houston with the promise of rebuilding 100 homes for families with the greatest need. Today, Rebuild operations are underway in four states.

Houston

To date, 117 homes have been rebuilt, one is under construction, and three are ready for construction.

Gulf Coast

In response to the multiple hurricanes of 2020, Team Rubicon launched rebuild operations in Lake Charles, LA, and Orange, TX. To date, 16 homes have been rebuilt and 11 are upcoming.

Haines, AK

In response to the 2020 floods and mudslides in Alaska, one home has been approved for rebuild.

Selma, AL

In response to devastation caused by Hurricane Zeta followed by tornadoes in March 2021, five homes have been approved for rebuild, four of those have had roofs installed and one is complete.
