COVID-19

Forward Watch, July 31

Greyshirts have helped facilitate roughly 75,000 COVID-19 tests at drive-thu sites in California and North Carolina.

Team Rubicon has 53 COVID-19 response operations underway with two more in the planning stages. Already, 218 operations have been completed. We’re in the process of establishing a new COVID-19 testing site in Georgia as part of an effort to expand the geographical scope of our medical operations.

InternationalNearly 17.3 million cases of COVID-19 and 673,000 related deaths have been reported worldwide. New outbreaks of COVID-19 are popping up in countries such as Japan, China, Australia, South Korea, and Vietnam where the virus was thought to be contained. Vietnam in particular appears to be facing a mutated strain of the virus after 100 days without a reported case.

United States: Roughly 4.5 million cases of COVID-19 and 152,000 related deaths have been reported in the U.S. Dr. Fauci, when speaking to Congress, said he was hopeful that a vaccine would be available by the end of 2020 or early 2021. Currently 27 vaccines are in human trials. The Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program expires today, imperiling the millions of Americans still dependent on increased unemployment benefits. Economists worry this could spark a foreclosure and eviction crisis.

How Team Rubicon is Responding to COVID-19

Team Rubicon is answering requests for assistance from local, state, and federal partners to support emergency humanitarian relief efforts in communities across the country. Our response focuses on ensuring access to nutrition, medical care, and essential government services for people who have been impacted by the pandemic. We’re putting safety first and following precautionary guidelines on every operation to protect the health of our volunteers and the communities they serve.

In addition to our organized operations, Greyshirts have performed 6,484 individual acts of service on a local level as part of our Neighbors Helping Neighbors initiative. They have also made 1,101 critical food deliveries to immunocompromised individuals and their families through the Emergency Food Assistance Program.
