COVID-19

Forward Watch, July 17

Team Rubicon is digging in and serving as the first line of defense for communities impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Team Rubicon has 5COVID-19 response operations underway with six more in the planning stages. Already, 206 operations have been completed. In the Navajo Nation, our months long medical operation has finally demobilized after serving 3,026 patients.

International: Over 13.8 million cases of COVID-19 and over 590,000 related deaths have been reported worldwide. In India, the number of reported cases has surpassed 1 million. France and the UK have both implemented new mandatory face mask measures to preemptively combat a second wave of the disease.

United States: Roughly 3.5 million cases of COVID-19 and 138,000 related deaths have been reported in the U.S. Since this time last month, the daily rate of new cases has increased in all but six states. On Wednesday, hospitals were asked to start reporting their COVID-19 information directly to the Federal Government and to stop reporting to the CDC. This has caused concern that data on the pandemic will become less transparent. The economic repercussions of COVID-19 stripped over 5.4 million Americans of their health insurance between February and May, the largest loss ever reported over a 3-month period.

How Team Rubicon is Responding to COVID-19

Team Rubicon is answering requests for assistance from local, state, and federal partners to support emergency humanitarian relief efforts in communities across the country. Our response focuses on ensuring access to nutrition, medical care, and essential government services for people who have been impacted by the pandemic. We’re putting safety first and following precautionary guidelines on every operation to protect the health of our volunteers and the communities they serve.

In addition to our organized operations, Greyshirts have performed 6,185 individual acts of service on a local level as part of our Neighbors Helping Neighbors initiative. They have also made 976 critical food deliveries to immunocompromised individuals and their families through the Emergency Food Assistance Program.
