Team Rubicon Launches New Kentucky Flooding Operations
More volunteers deploy to serve victims of Kentucky floods.
Immediately in the wake of catastrophic flooding in Kentucky that killed at least 37, wiped out roads and bridges, and displaced entire communities, Team Rubicon began sending volunteers to serve victims in the flood-ravaged eastern part of the state.
On Thursday and Friday, the veteran-led nonprofit spun up two new emergency responses. The new operations come in addition to those launched at the beginning of the week in Knott and Letcher counties.
In the new operation in Clay County, Greyshirts are mucking houses, tarping roofs against possible incoming rain, and removing flood debris to grant families access to homes and property inundated by the floods.
From their base in Hazard, KY, volunteers in Perry County are mucking homes and running chainsaw operations to clear routes and provide access to homes.
The Clay County and Perry County flood operations come in addition to those in Knott County—where Team Rubicon has been doing route clearance since Sunday—and in Letcher County where, since Monday, volunteers have been mucking flooded houses and providing expedient house repairs in hopes of returning people to their homes, quickly.
By this Sunday, Team Rubicon will have already put more than 135 Greyshirts on the ground in Kentucky in response to the floods. It expects to deploy hundreds more to assist with flooding relief in Kentucky over the next several weeks.
